* Exported from MasterCook * Buttermilk Layer Cake Recipe By : Serving Size : 12 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 2 1/3 cups cake flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 1/2 sticks butter 1 1/3 cups sugar 3 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup buttermilk Have all ingredients at room temperature. Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour two 9 inch cake pans (I also use parchment paper). Mix dry ingredients in a small bowl. Cream butter, gradually adding sugar. Beat on high speed 4 minutes. In still another bowl whisk eggs and vanilla. Gradully beat eggs into butter mixture. Add the flour mixture in 3 parts, alternating with the buttermilk. Pour into cake pans and bake 25 to 30 minutes. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pans on a rack for 10 minutes. Slide a knife around the edge, to detach it from the pans. Invert the cake and peel off the liners, if used.
